Toyota Wishes You Happy Holidays and Safe Travels

St Louis Toyota Corolla DealerThe holidays are in full swing and Christmas is just around the corner.  You probably have a trip or two planned to visit family over this holiday season.  Whether you are traveling across the state or just across town, there are some very important safety concerns to keep in mind.  One of these very real concerns includes the danger of drunk drivers.  David Strickland, administrator for the NHTSA comments on the upcoming travel season saying, “Ultimately, personal responsibility is critical to improving roadway safety and we urge all motorists to be responsible this holiday season and never, ever drive drunk.”

The NHTSA isn’t just talking about awareness, they have just kicked off a campaign for this year’s “winter holiday enforcement crackdown.”  Backed by more than $7 million in advertising, the NHTSA hopes to bring a heightened sense of awareness to this very real and tragic issue during the Christmas season in a campaign called “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”  MADD also contributes to this campaign in an effort to encourage everyone who plans to consume alcohol during the holidays to designate a sober driver beforehand.  The NHTSA asks you to remember these important tips before you begin celebrating the holidays:

  • Always plan your evening ahead so you aren’t stuck without a sober driver and tempted to drive after consuming alcohol.
  • If you do find yourself out and impaired, be smart…call a taxi or a family/friend to come get you.
  • Do not get in a vehicle with someone who is drinking and driving.  Contact police if you have a concern about another drunk driver on the roadway.
