20 Years of Toyota’s North American Proving Ground

Weiss new Toyota dealer near St. Peters is excited to announce the 20th anniversary of Toyota’s Arizona Proving Ground.  Toyota’s Arizona Proving Ground or TAPG, is described by the Toyota USA Newsroom as, “Toyota’s largest vehicle evaluation investment in the United States.  TAPG is located about 40 miles outside Phoenix.  This 12,000-acre facility features a 10-mile high speed oval track and several miles of test tracks.  The primary function is development of vehicles for North America, including performance and reliability.”

Also according to the Toyota USA Newsroom, “In 1993, Dr. Shoichiro Toyoda, Toyota Motor Corporation chairman, called the opening of the Arizona Proving Ground, “another milestone for us in putting our American operations on a truly American footing.” Today, TAPG employs more than 50 team members, and its investment tops $108 million.  Additionally, Toyota has made great efforts to harmonize development of this facility with nature and has preserved the vast majority of the area in its natural state.”

Seiya Nakao, president of Toyota Technical Center had this to say about TAPG, “TAPG plays a vital role in Toyota’s formula for success in the North America. Our mission is clear; to set the stage for Toyota’s growth by contributing to the improvement of safety, quality, and performance of Toyota, Scion and Lexus vehicles in North America.”
