Toyota Teams with BMW for Hybrid Technology

The Toyota Motor Corporation has been a leader when it comes to hybrid technology among the automotive industry. They were the first to set the standard over a decade ago when they introduced the Toyota Prius car. Even though the Prius came onto the scene with much criticism it persevered and proved to be a quick success. Since then Toyota has committed to developing a hybrid version of each gas powered vehicle they manufacture. They now offer the Toyota Camry Hybrid, the Toyota Highlander Hybrid vehicle and are working on an electric version of the Toyota Rav4. You can find the latest in hybrid technology when you visit your local St. Louis MO new Toyota dealer.

The Toyota Motor Corporation has also worked to better the entire auto industry’s products. They are currently working with the Ford Motor Company to develop hybrid technology for their lightweight pickup trucks. Hybrid technology has yet to meet this group of vehicles and there is a demand for such a product. It is the perfect time for such a development. They recently announced they will be teaming with BMW as well. They will be working on the development and production of lithium ion batteries. It has been reported that as part of the deal BMW will supply diesel engines to Toyota in Europe. The lithium ion batteries will be designated for electric and hybrid cars alike. Such vehicles may include the Toyota Rav4 and some vehicles belonging to the Toyota Prius family.

BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer commented on the partnership:
“Toyota is the leading provider of environment-friendly series technology in the volume segment and the BMW Group is the most innovative and sustainable manufacturer of premium automobiles.”
