The all new 2014 Toyota Corolla is one everyone is excited to take a drive in.  For years now, the Toyota Corolla has been a driving force in the auto industry and it is not question as to why by anyone who currently owns one.  In our last article we talked about the new performance packages of the Toyota Corolla.  We are now going to highlight some of the great aspects of the performance and efficiency of the new 2013 Toyota Corolla models.

The new 2014 Toyota Corolla will be offered in 3 different trims:
• Corolla L: Base model
• LE
• S: Sporty grade
• LE ECO: New Eco Engine

Toyota Corolla mpgThree of the above trims (L, LE, and S), you will find standard a 1.8-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine.  This engine will produce 132 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque.  The fuel economy is brought to the next level…as in true Toyota fashion…as they have integrated a dual variable valve timing with intelligence controls.  This system has special controls over the valve timing on the intake and exhaust camshafts and therefore boosts the fuel economy.  What is the fuel economy you might be asking?  The EPA-estimated rating is 28 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway when equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. The highway mileage stays the same when equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission, and only reduces by 1 mpg, down to 27 mpg in the city.  The L, LE, and S packs also come with the CVA Transmission that adds 1 mpg to these packs.  For the first time in the Corolla, Toyota has added the LE ECO engine that produces 140 horsepower and still gets 30 mpg City and 42 mpg highway.

When purchasing a four-speed automatic model of the new Toyota Corolla, you will find it uses a torque converter with flex lockup, which is what ultimately increases the fuel efficiency in the car.  There is also an uphill/downhill shift control that helps in this area.  For the sport enthusiast who likes to drive fast…you can easily shift the lever from the drive position to the shift position allowing you to upshift and downshift manually.
