Changing Fuses

schedule an appointmentAll cars are equipped with fuses. Without these fuses you would risk starting a fire at any given point while driving. In the event that amp load in a circuit exceeds the limit for that circuit the fuse would blow, rather than a fire starting. Fuses are an important mechanism to any vehicle, even a used Toyota car or truck MO.

Circuits come on various limits. Some will be able to handle 20 to 30 amps while others will be built to withstand five to 15 amps. When the current in a circuit exceed the limit, the metal element within the fuse melts, and the fuse blows; this results in the current no longer being able to flow freely along that circuit. If you have a fuse which continuously blows for some reason, there may be something wrong along the circuit lines.

It is important to only use fuses on certain circuit lines. Using a fuse designed for 20 amps on a circuit running only 10 amps a recipe for trouble. While a 20 amp fuse may sound like more than able to handle a 10 amp circuit it may not be able to handle the difference and a key component of the system may become fried. You may be able to safely change fuses from the comfort of your own garage. However, the technicians at your local Toyota service department will be able to safely, easily, and quickly change a fuse for you. Simply call to schedule an appointment. Checking the fuses is an ordinary process when they inspect your new or used Toyota car. However, if you have a fuse which continues to blow they may need to take a closer look.
