How to Avoid Road Rage

Local Toyota dealerWe have all been victim of road rage.  People can get overly angry while behind the wheel by things as silly as not departing from a stop light soon enough upon it turning green.  According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, “at least 1,500 people a year are seriously injured or killed in senseless traffic disputes.”  There are some tips you can use to avoid being in either position (the target of the rage, or the one dishing it out).  The AAA foundation has provided a list of helpful tips.  These are just a few:

Avoid being the target:

Don’t drive too closely to the person in front of you.  Sometimes this can be done unknowingly, but it can be perceived as an act of aggression from the person in front of you.  You should try to maintain at least two car lengths between you.
Don’t drive in the left traffic lane if you are not passing.
When on the interstate, move over to the left lane when approaching on-ramps to allow entering cars room to proceed.
Avoid offensive bumper-stickers.
Avoid being the “road rager”:
Give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination
Re-think your route if you are faced with construction or heavy traffic.
Take breaks on long trips.
Make yourself comfortable with music that you like.
