Tips for your Summer Travels

local Toyota service department St. LouisNow that you have scheduled your appointment with your local Toyota service department St. Louis to get your car ready for the trip, and you know what you need to do to keep you kids safe on the road, there are a few other tips to take into consideration while on the road.  The NHTSA takes bad driving behaviors seriously as they see the devastation caused by these acts every day.  Accidents caused by these types of behaviors are senseless and could easily be avoided.  These are the problems they see the most often:

Distracted Driving: According to statistics, “nearly 80 percent of crashes and 65 percent of near-crashes involve some form of driver distraction.”  So, what’s your best way to avoid an accident on the way to your vacation destination?…Avoid distractions!  Distractions come in many different forms including; “cell phone use, texting while driving, eating, drinking, talking with passengers, and using in-vehicle technologies and portable electronic devices.”
Wear your seatbelts!  Most of you will value the importance of buckling up your kids, so why wouldn’t you take the same consideration for you own life?  In the case of an accident, what good is it if your children are safe and their parents are tragically injured?  Your life is important too and can be saved by a seat belt in the case of an accident.
Do not drink and drive!  If you plan to have a drink while on vacation, make sure you have a designator sober driver or plan ahead and take a taxi or ask your hotel or resort if they provide transportation to and from your location.  “Every 45 minutes and 32 times a day, someone in the United States dies in an alcohol-impaired-driving crash.”  Be smart…don’t become a statistic!
