Tips for Drivers

Be on the look-out for pedestrians.
Take extra precautions in inclement weather conditions and at night.
Stop at crosswalks when pedestrians are waiting to pass.
Wait for vehicles that are stopped for pedestrians…do not pass.
Check your blind spot when making turns.
Be extremely cautious in school zones.
Refrain from using your phone for talk or text while driving.

Tips for Pedestrians

Utilize sidewalks and crosswalks when provided.
Avoid walking on busy roads or multi-lane streets.
Walk facing traffic when it is necessary to walk on the actual road.
Prepare yourself with a flashlight and reflectors for night walking.
Pay attention to your surroundings.  Be careful when walking with headphones which will impair your hearing.
Avoid walking when you are under the influence of alcohol.  It may seem like a good idea as opposed to driving, but the best choice is to call for a ride or taxi.
